WHAT IS ROYAL ARCH MASONRY?
Royal Arch Masonry is the next step in Masonry after the symbolic Lodge. Royal Arch Masonry is, and always has been, the very summit of perfection in Freemasonry. The Royal Arch Mason is the beating heart of all of Freemasonry. In symbolic Masonry we are taught the lessons of Brotherly love, relief & truth; combined with temperance, fortitude, prudence, and justice. These principles are expanded upon in Royal Arch Masonry along with other teachings.
With Fervency and Zeal, the term, “Holiness to the Lord” is taught in Royal Arch Masonry to remind us of the almighty power and force of the Grand Architect of the Universe. Your local Chapter of Royal Arch Masons is under the jurisdiction of the Michigan Grand Chapter, which is under the jurisdiction of Royal Arch Masons International. There are approximately 1,900 Royal Arch Masons in 40 Chapters throughout the state.
CAPITULAR DEGREES
Having completed your degrees in Symbolic Masonry (Blue Lodge), your next step in advancing in York Rite Masonry is the Chapter of Capitular Degrees.
Royal Arch Masonry is said to have derived its origin from the original Masonic Degrees and traditions.
The local Chapter is under the jurisdiction of the Grand Chapter of Michigan. There are some 76 active Chapters in Michigan, located throughout the lower and upper peninsulas, with a present membership of about 8,000 companions. The General Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons International and the Grand Chapter of all the states (except three) and several foreign jurisdictions are affiliated, the largest Masonic group under one head to be found anywhere in the world. It has a membership of about 650,000 members.
